The children will also be taught by Mr Richard Johnson (English and Music), Mr Edd Chalkley (Maths), Miss Sarah Butcher (MfL) and our Sports Coaches, Mr Marc Troman and Mrs Katie Whenman.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the class teaching team by emailing this address: yr6@beacon-ce-primary.devon.sch.uk

Home Learning

Home learning activities will be sent out on a Thursday to be returned the following Wednesday. This will be focused on Spelling and Grammar, Handwriting and Maths. Children will be given home learning books which will contain the activities they are working on that week. These are to be brought to school each Wednesday ready for the next week’s activities.

Times Table Rockstars is not a choice and is a part of your child's home learning. They each have a login which is stuck in their home learning book. Paper practice is available when requested by a parent.

Reading

In Year 6, we are very enthusiastic about books and reading! We encourage children's reading for pleasure and enjoyment. As part of our provision, children will have a school library book. This should come to and from school daily for the children to read and enjoy. Please read with your child and foster a life-long love of reading.

Year 6 are currently reading The Final Year.

Struggling to engage your child with books at home? Please let Miss Ebbutt know.

Topic

Our new topic is Britain at War! We will learn about the causes, events and consequences of the First and Second World Wars, the influence of new inventions on warfare, how life in Great Britain was affected and the legacy of the wars in the post-war period.

Pre SATS Summer Timetable

Here is the daily timetable for this term. Although there may be some changes for additional activities or visits, we try to follow this as closely as we can. Please take the time to look at this with your child before the school week and to review each day with them afterwards.

Note: Read timetable from left to right. Scroll down for the afternoon activities.

Britain at War and Human Reproduction: Below, you will find the knowledge organiser, glossary and some home learning ideas for our new Science and Topic projects.

Across the Summer term, we will have Science days. We will learn about Forces & Mechanisms and Properties of Materials. The knowledge organiser and glossary is available for each topic below.

Y5/6 Spellings: Alongside the regular practice of homework spellings, there are a set of Year 5/6 spellings that children are expected to know by the end of the two-year phase. Please practise these words regularly with your child (first link).

Maths Resources: Below, you will find a 12 x 12 times table grid. Children are expected to be fluent in their times tables. Please practice times tables with your child and encourage them to use Times Table Rockstars! There are also KS2 Maths SATS resources for you to have a look at.
