What we are learning this term...

Our topic this term is 'Emperors and Empires!' We will be learning about the history and structure of ancient Rome and the Roman Empire, including a detailed exploration of the Romanisation of Britain.

Reading: reading is carried out on a daily basis, and books are changed regularly. Please ensure your child has their reading book with them every day. Please spend quality time sharing these books with your child at home. Your child will read regularly in guided group sessions and with one of our reading volunteers. We are now using Sparx Reader to track their progress: quizzing for this can be done at home by scanning their bookmark or in class when a child every time they read.

Our Class readers and guided reading text this term:

Charlotte's Web.

Science: This term our learning is all about light.

Spelling

As well as the weekly spelling focus taught using 'Jungle Club,' children have a list of words that will be taught throughout the year in class. They should aim to be able to spell all of them by the end of Year 4. These can also be practised at home.

Times-Tables: Time tables are extremely important in all aspects of maths learning and understanding. The children are encouraged to play TT-Rockstars regularly and we ask that you support this by giving them opportunities to practise at home.

www.ttrockstars.com

This term we have our Multiplication Tables checks and we will be doing lots of extra practice for this. The children will sit the check in June, having 25 random multiplication questions to answer and 6 seconds to answer each one.

Home Learning

(Homework for the first two weeks after Easter is practising their words and songs for the play!)

Children are provided with a Home Learning book which they will bring home on a Friday and return on a Thursday.

Home Learning should be a chance to consolidate and practise the learning we have done in class, with someone at home.

If your children are finding it challenging, please contact a member of the Year 4 Team. We are here to help!
