Children's Mobility Visit to Grevena, Greece.

1st - 6th March 2020

We are really excited, 7 children from Y6 are spending this week in Grevena with Mr Sanders and Mrs Hughes!

They set off at midnight on the 1st March to travel to Heathrow and fly to Greece. They  met up with our Spanish friends in Frankfurt and flew on to Thessaloniki. Having settled into their hotel, they went for an evening meal in the town before an early night.

Sadly our Italian and Slovenian partners have not been able to travel as their Governments have prevented travel in their regions.

All ready to fly!

Monday 2nd March 2020

Today the Spanish and UK children are exploring Grevena and getting to know each other. They are enjoying trying local foods and will spend time in school this afternoon.

Visiting an Amphitheatre in Grevena.

Wednesday 3rd March

Today our children are visiting mountain villages just outside Grevena and foraging for plants and mushrooms with a specialist guide in a forest.  The bridge in the photo is famous locally, it's over 200 years old and used to e the only link for villagers to be able to cross the river.

The following information has been shared with families.

The Request Form to put your child forward for the trip has been emailed to our families.

The children enjoyed their flights!

Chloe: It was really good, we’ve had an adventure and I loved how high up we were!

Bartosz: It was amazing, the best bit was the landing.

Sophie: It was really cook, totally different to what I thought it would be.  The views were really nice.

Laila: It was very tiring, but fun.  I loved seeing out of the window, especially the snow on top of the mountains.

What else will they be doing this week?

Trying traditional local foods.

Visiting Siatista, a city close to Grevena, to see the traditional housing of the area and find out about traditional jobs and trades of the locality.

Visiting a paleontology museum 'Milias Grevenon' in a local town.

Visiting a Centre for Environmental Education.

Visiting Spilaio Village and the Virgin Mary Monestry.

Visiting Grevena's Folklore Museum and Municipal Library.

Computing workshops at the school.

Tuesday 3rd March

This morning our Y6 have joined with the Spanish group again to visit historic homes in the Grevena region. They've also visited a museum with the world's largest surviving Mammoth tusk!

Thursday 5th March

Today the children visited Metora monastery near Grevena.  It's perched on a tall rocky outcrop, so there are amazing views!

Friday 6th March

A long journey home with a stop off in Thessaloniki to see the sights before flying.

A tired but very happy group of 7 children returned home at 10.30pm.

A huge THANK YOU to Mr Sanders and Mrs Hughes for leading the trip and to our Greek hosts for such a fantastic week.

Learn the 'Friends Across The Earth' song in Greek

On our recent Erasmus visit to Greece seven children from Year 6 learned to sing this song in Greek. Let's see if some more children can learn it too.

Here are the words of the song: greek-words.pdf

Below you can hear how the song should sound when you get it right:   (Sung by Mary, a teacher from Grevena).

A reminder to those who went to Greece:

I hope you all remembered to paint your red eggs and to find out whose egg was the strongest by knocking them together and looking for the egg that didn't crack?
