Safeguarding

At The Beacon Church of England (V.A.) Primary School we strongly recognise the need for vigilant awareness of safeguarding issues.  All staff have appropriate training and induction so that they understand their roles and responsibilities and are confident about carrying them out.  Staff, pupils, parents and Governors should feel secure that they can raise any issues or concerns about the safety or welfare of children and know that they will be listened to and taken seriously.  This will be achieved by maintaining an ethos of safeguarding, promoting the welfare of children and young people as well as protecting staff.  This is supported by clear behaviour, anti-bullying and child protection policies, appropriate induction and training, briefing and discussion of relevant issues and relevant learning in line with current legislature and guidelines.

Designated Safeguarding Lead:  Mrs A. Billington

(Please refer any concerns to Mrs Billington in the first instance or to a deputy Designated Senior Person below)

Radicalisation and Extremism

The Government defines extremism as vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.

Some children are at risk of being radicalised: adopting beliefs and engaging in activities which are harmful, criminal or dangerous.  Islamic extremism is the most widely publicised form and schools should also remain alert to the risk of radicalisation into white supremacy extremism.

School staff receive training to help to identify signs of extremism.  Opportunities are provided in the curriculum to enable pupils to discuss issues of religion, ethnicity and culture and the school follows the DfE advice Promoting fundamental British Values as part of SMCS (spiritual, moral, social and cultural education) in Schools (2014).

Volunteers in School

We are fortunate to have a number of volunteers working with us at The Beacon.  We have robust procedures in place to ensure our volunteers comply with safeguarding requirements.

More details available in our Volunteers Guidance (see Policies page of our website), or speak with our Headteacher Mrs Anne Billington.

Operation Encompass

Our school is pleased to be part of Operation Encompass - an agreement with the Police and the school to share information, in confidence, where a child has been exposed to or involved in a domestic incident.  The sharing of information enables us to make provision for the child and their family accordingly.  More information is available from their website www.operationencompass.org
