Children's Mobility Visit to UK

27th - 31st January 2020

We enjoyed welcoming children and staff from our Erasmus+ Partner schools to The Beacon between 27th and 30th January 2020.

Children from Year 6 joined the 30 European children for the week. They learned about the geography and history of Exmouth and the surrounding area, how these have influenced the local trades and crafts of the area and investigated how technology may change these into the future.

Our European partners enjoyed evening activities such as a djembe drumming workshop, film night and eating traditional foods.

On the final day of the visit, we held a Celebration event at Holy Trinity, our church.  We were pleased to welcome the Mayor and Town Crier of Exmouth and Mrs Wilson, our Diocesan Education Officer to celebrate with us.

A 'getting to know you game' in multiple languages and a boat trip on the Exe to research our local area.

At The Beacon we all love Beach School. Our 'European Beach School' was a great way to get to know each other and problem solve together - it can be difficult to explain your ideas when the children in your group speak at least 5 different languages.  We all really had to think carefully about our explanations and choice of vocabulary.

We all enjoyed Rugby skills on the beach.  It was interesting to hear about the different PE and Sports each school regularly participate in.

Every school presented information about their locality - the history and geography of the local area and how these shaped the traditional trades of each place.  We found lots of similarities - and several differences.  Our Greek friends were interested to know that we have a Town Crier too - and they were pleased to hear him when he joined us in Holy Trinity for our celebration worship.

Our visitors enjoyed a Djembe Drumming worshop on the Wednesday evening - and had the courage (our Collective Worship theme for the term was Courage!) to perform for everyone at Holy Trinity Church in our Celebration event the following morning!  Well done!  And 'thank you!' to Mrs Nelmes!

Everyone was awarded certificates for their participation in the Erasmus+ UK week at The Beacon - children and staff!  Thank  you to the Mayor of Exmouth, our Town Crier and our Diocesan Education Officer for joining us and helping us to make the event special.
