HOME LEARNING HEALTH WARNING!

Times are hard for everyone, the most important thing is to look after your own mental health and help your family to do the same.

We will post enough work so your children can find tasks they'll enjoy -  but we aren't expecting families to be doing all of it!   Do what's right for you and your circumstances.

In terms of learning, the priority is to keep reading and number tasks going whenever you can, these things will make it easier to return to learning once school re-opens.

Year 4 Home Learning Page Week 3 (20.4.2020)

Hi Year 4!

This week's mini topic is Ancient Egypt, where you will discover the pyramids, write in hieroglyphs and maybe find out why they worshipped cats! We also have cats vs dogs theme in English and multiplication and division tasks in maths. Remember, if you cannot print the work, don't worry, just do the task on paper instead.  If you have any questions or want to share some of your amazing work, please email me at yr4@beacon-ce-primary.devon.sch.uk.

Hope that you are all well and staying safe.

Ms Lynn

Keep practising your maths fluency by login on here to Mathletics and Times Tables Rock Stars.

Maths Activities for the Week:  Multiplying and dividing (there are a lot of questions in this booklet so just choose a few questions every day and show your workings out on a piece of paper to save printing - a little bit everyday is best. There are also word problems in here too).

Task 2: Complete a book review on your favourite book that you have read whilst learning at home.

Can you read a book for at least 20 minutes and tell someone at home:

  • what predictions you made
  • what you inferred about a character
  • what words you had to clarify

French

La marelle is the French version of hopscotch, a counting game. Watch the video here to see how to play it and practice counting to ten (and back again) at the same time as the children.

Can you draw a grid outside and play it yourself?

Answers from last week can be found here and here.

Computing

This week we're going to use https://www.transum.org/software/Logo/ to draw different shapes. Select level 2 as you have more control and can make smaller shapes, but note that 'fd 10' now makes a shorter line than in level 1.

Have a look here to see the instructions sheet.

Extra challenge: What do you get if you type in repeat 75 [fd 200 rt 175 fd 200]. Can you make different designs of flower by changing the numbers in bold? I tried repeat 75 [fd 200 rt 144 fd 200] to make a star.

Do let us know what shapes you have made. Maybe take a screenshot and email it so that we can see what they look like and what colours you used.
