Topic:
Our topic this term is Frozen Kingdom. We will explore the planet’s coldest lands, which are incredibly beautiful, yet often deadly - finding out about how some of the planet's toughest creatures are adapted to living in this region.
Our Science focus this half-term is Electrical Circuits and Components. We will be exploring electrical circuits, their components and how they function. We will learn how the voltage of cells affects the output of a circuit and record circuits using standard symbols.
Home Learning:
Home learning activities will be sent out on a Friday to be returned the following Friday. This will be focused on Maths, Reading and Spelling. Children will be given home learning books which will contain the activities they are working on that week. These are to be brought to school each Friday ready for the next week’s activities.
Sumdog is also available for homework at... www.sumdog.com
Reading:
We are highly keen to encourage children’s reading for pleasure and enjoyment. As part of our school provision, children will have a school library book. This should come to and from school daily for the children to read and enjoy. Please share this reading with them and foster their love of reading. They will also have access to MyOn which will allow them to enjoy ebooks and audio books, and also to quiz on them via Accelerated Reader.
PE Days:
This half term, children will be going swimming on Friday afternoons, so please ensure you send your child in with swimwear along with a towel in a bag large enough for their clothes, shoes and towel. Please note that girls’ costumes should be one-piece and boys should wear fitted swimming trunks, as board shorts tend to create a drag through the water which hampers their swimming ability. All items should be clearly named. Please also pack a spare plastic bag for your child’s wet costume and towels.
Year 5/6 Spellings:
Alongside the regular practice of homework spelling, there a set of Year 5/6 spellings that children are expected to know by the end of the two-year phase. Please practise these words regularly with your child.
